Celebrating Everyday Spirituality

Truly a Blessing

???????????????????????????????Each year we gather the employees of our Sisters of Notre Dame Sponsored Ministries and honor those employees who are marking an anniversary year of employment with us, and each year I find myself a bit overwhelmed. These are individuals who have committed to more than a job; they make a statement by their day-to-day efforts that this is about ministry – the ministry of introducing Jesus Christ to all those they meet.

Whether they serve at Maria Early Learning Center, Notre Dame Academy, Lial Catholic School or Double ARC, our collaborators in ministry are living proof of the impact of our fourth guiding principle: an integrated education for transformation. In big ways and small ways, their presence and service makes a great difference and helps to change our world – for the better!

I am truly grateful for the blessing of each of our employees!  Is there a particular employee in one of our sponsored ministries who has touched your life and helped to transform your world?

  1. Sr. Suan Marie touch my life as boss and my daughter’s as principle. She is a wonderful woman, with a deep love for Christ and all unearthly people. Thank you Suan as you continue to touch my life as deer friend. Also Cathy Kerscher who was a former teacher at Lial. She is my deer friend whom I consider a true friends. God bless you women as you walk your faith path.

  2. Many of the teachers at Notre Dame Academy made an profound impact on my life, namely Laura Gallaher. Mrs. G reminded me how much I love to read and write and bolstered my English skills. I think fondly of her and NDA often!

  3. One of my favorite teachers, way back when, was Sr. Joanne Mary (Sr. Jon). The many business courses she taught helped me secure a job as a secretary and part time bookkeeper. Now I am working for the Sisters at the Provincial House for almost 15 years, loving every minute of it. These are great women dedicated to inspiring young women to be more and do more to make a better world. Thank you Sisters of Notre Dame for all you do.

  4. I had many wonderful teacher SND mentors in my days at NDA (1971-1975)
Some that stand out are Sr. Miriam Eble (Sr. Laura) who I worked with while serving on Student Council,
Sr. Carol Gregory (Sr. Kevan) who was my Biology teacher, Sr. Joanne Mary (Sr. Jon) who taught me something!! not sure! I remember her so well!
Their “normalcy”-(while being a sister which was a vocation of great mystery to me) and all three possessed a wonderful sense of humor- which I loved, a love of their job and a peacefulness of being a Sister of Notre Dame. All three represented the SND’s marvelously! Many others but these were the three that affected me the most!

We are in the “Good Shepherd Season” of the Church year. Often we read about sheep going through gates, grazing in pastures, hearing the voice of the leader, even following the shepherd. Homilists instruct us to be like sheep. Pope Francis exhorted us to smell like sheep. Too often, though

When Pope Leo XIV woke up this morning, what were his first thoughts? “Oh, that was an interesting conclave.” Then with more consciousness, “Oh, I’m the Pope.” Because he knows several languages, were his waking thoughts in English, Italian, or Spanish? Perhaps our waking thoughts were also on the Pope.

As Sisters of Notre Dame, Mary is a model for us as we seek to experience and express God’s goodness and provident care in the unfolding of each day. Join us on the journey!
