I haven’t written a blog for a month. I apologize to my readers. You see, I have been very busy making gold out of stones. You might think this is truly remarkable; however, it’s what we Sisters of Notre Dame have been doing since 1850. If you don’t believe me, read the letter written by our foundress Sister Maria Aloysia on July 13, 1881. She wrote: “Most important in our work is the uniting of all our actions with the works of the Divine Savior. Thus we make gold out of stones.” Skeptical? Not me! It’s Divine Alchemy!
You see, God uses everything we say and do. We are God’s messengers as we teach or comfort or aid or even write this blog. God picks up our actions—physical and mental—and uses them for good benefiting someone somewhere. As an international congregation, I imagine that my round of daily activity—done with the right intention (that is, God’s glory and the advantage of others)—may help a missionary in Indonesia or a teacher in Los Angeles or people unknown. Some readers may refer to this as “offering it up” or “making the good intention.” I call it “making gold from stones.” Whatever you call it, it’s a most profitable endeavor.

Let me comment on why Sister Valerie hasn’t had time to write blogs. You see, she played the music for our jubilee celebration on July 19. In addition she practiced with the singer and then wrote the table jubilee song. She was behind the scenes making sure the liturgy for our public celebration July 27 went off without a hitch. All of this in addition to her regular ministries. Personally, I am grateful for all she did to make the jubilee celebrations so memorable.
