The Bible says. . .

Reading the Bible may do you very little good. (Did you re-read the sentence? Did you think it was a misprint ?)

Well, reading the Bible may do us very little good if we don’t put it into practice. The Bible encourages us to praise God and give thanks for everything (see Eph. 5:20 and 1 Thes. 5:18). Can we praise and thank God for everything today whether it’s snarled traffic or the best parking place, an empty toothpaste tube or a refrigerator blessed with abundance, a stubbed toe or a heart full of joy? Praising God for traffic jams and stubbed toes takes more “trust muscle,” but that muscle will strengthen over time with use.

I like the expression “trust muscle” ….now to build the muscle through practice !

It is so true that God works through all situations…

Today I’m praising God for a little tiny woman who showed up at our monastery door yesterday late in the afternoon. She wanted a priest. No one was around. She got “the nun” instead! I feel privileged to have been the one here … the one who could hold her story in my heart … I’m still thinking about her … one might say those who “show up at the door” can be an inconvenient interruption … but in those inconvenient interruptions one finds God!

There is so much to learn from the least expected if we but only are open minded. How blessed are we when with blind faith, which is not always easy, we trust God to touch our heart and soul with big and small messages of love and grace. The silver lining is not always as glitzy as we may think, yet it is there if we but look at what God has placed in our path.
