Experiencing the Fullness of God’s Goodness

Around noon yesterday, our dear Sister Mary Carola Billat entered eternal life and the fullness of God’s incredible goodness.

When I think of Sister Mary Carola, I think of her never-failing smile, the twinkle in her eye, her loved nickname “Crayola,” and the delightful rapport she had with junior high students.  She definitely knew how to have fun with them, and  her love and care for them was always evident.  As recently as Christmas 2010, former students were still coming to visit. Sister addressed many of us in community as “Kid,” and I always felt it was one of the highest compliments she could give us.

Our Constitutions states, “God gives us the gift and mission to proclaim to others his overwhelming goodness and provident care.”  Sister Mary Carola experienced this goodness so profoundly that it naturally spilled over in her many relationships with others.  We rejoice in the blessing her life has been and the gift her memory and intercession will continue to be.

Sister Mary Carola was my eighth grade teacher at St. James School in Toledo, as she was to my two younger sisters. We LOVED her! My remembrance of Sister was as yours, “I think of her never-failing smile, the twinkle in her eye,”
Sister’s love for her bridegroom (Jesus) was evident in her very being, the way she taught, her music, her love and concern for others. When my best friend and former classmate died,Sister helped me to grieve and assured me that my friend , who had suffered greatly in her short life, now enjoyed the glory of eternal life with the Father.
My late mother Angie Brown , who cooked for the Sisters at St. James had fond memories of Sister Carola also, remembering her joking spirit and infectious smile.
Sister Carola and I kept in touch. long after she left St. James. I received a Christmas card from her every year while she was able to do so. When I graduated from Nursing School 21 years ago , she sent me a card with a beautiful message of encouragement and praise..
I ran into Sister Carola at a John Michale Talbot concert, about 20 years ago. She hadn’t changed one bit and greeted me with a big smile, a warm hug and”Hi Kid!”
Sister Mary Carola left this world a better place for her having been here. If it is possible, heaven is just a wee bit brighter today because of Sister Carola’s arrival. I ‘d venture to say that Our Loving Father greeted her with the words “Well done my good and faithful servant.Welcome Home Kid!”
